Painting Light
January 29, 2009
This is an image from a recent assignment where we had to light an entire room with one small flash/strobe. I walked around the room “painting” light in the areas that I wanted to highlight. 45 images and 6 hours later, this is the final image after merging them all together! It’s actually a pretty cool trick to know!

More Mask Practice….
January 27, 2009
I found a file that I thought was lost… I was so happy! Anyhow, I thought I would use this file to practice my masking technique for dropping in backgrounds that I have created…. It is however a very rough practice piece. I did not get very precise with my pen tool for lack of time. I shot the background with chrome and cross processed it and manipulated the image in photoshop… If I recall, it was one of the very first images I worked with in photoshop. The girl is a friend I recently met and she was nice enough to model for me. This is one of the out take photos from the shoot.
I know I still need A LOT more practice, but it’s pretty cool I think!

I shot these images as part of my multimedia assignment. The image on the left was shot in the studio with my cannon 30D, 24-70 lens, and two spedo’s bounced into two v-boards (split-light). The image on the right was shot “on location” later that evening. I used the same camera and lens with my 580 speedlight at half power diffused with two cocktail napkins.

Snow Princess
January 22, 2009

my baby girl playing in the snow!
I took this shot of my daughter just before I froze my fingers off building a snowman without gloves! Yea, I’ll freeze my butt off to see her happy! I used a cannon 30D w/ a 24-70 lens and natural light only.
DESSERT….
January 15, 2009

My latest school assignment. Dessert…. It is what is is!!! Everyone likes different things and has different tastes. Call them “flavors”… Some people read the newspaper while eating dessert, some people read playboy… Who really knows what who reads when… That’s all I’m gonna say….
Winter Daze

This image was my first real attempt at creating a background and dropping it in on a masked image. I wanted to practice masking over hair. It was difficult to say the least! It’s not perfect by any means, but I am pleased with the results for a first attempt. The background is actually raindrops on my windshield. I used a cannon 30D and experimented with long exposures. Also, I used a 24-70mm lens and available light only. For the girl, I used a 5D with a 24-70mm lens and 580 off-camera flash with a soft box attachment. I am looking forward to more experiments like this!
Brrrrrrr!
